Member Spotlight DENYS!!!
1. What made you want to start doing classes at Pilates Haus?
In early 2021, I was diagnosed with high-range superficial bladder cancer. Over the next 3.5 years, I underwent immunotherapy and was finally cleared in November 2024.
During the last six months of that journey and up to April 2025, I focused on improving my health and managed to lose 30kg — going from 107kg to 77kg through a combination of diet, fasting, and walking 6km every day.
However, during those four years, I lost muscle mass, flexibility, balance and strength. I knew it was time to rebuild, and I had been given a second chance at life.
After researching Pilates, I tried several studios in Wollongong. After speaking with Jade — who recommended private sessions — and working with Maeghan, I realised Pilates Haus offered everything I needed. The professionalism, warmth, and caring ethos of the team made my decision easy. That’s where my journey began.
2. What’s your favourite class to attend?
Impossible to choose! Every class — Function + Form, Stretch & Recover, Level 1, and now Bells & Bikes — offers its own unique challenge. Together, they create a balanced mental and physical workout that keeps me progressing.
3. How many classes a week do you come to?
I currently attend 4 classes per week, sometimes 5.I like to mix up the class styles so I’m working on all aspects of my fitness.
4. Do you mind sharing how young you are?
I’m 78 years young — turning 79 in February 2026.
5. How do you feel after attending the Strength + Conditioning class at the CBD?
This class takes the Pilates experience to another level. It’s extremely challenging — mentally and physically — and absolutely lives up to its name.
By the end, you’re completely spent. What you gain is exactly proportionate to the effort you put in.
6. What advice would you give to anybody wanting to start their Reformer or movement journey?
It is never too late to commit to becoming the best version of yourself.
The Reformer is an ingenious piece of equipment that offers endless variety without overly stressing the body. It allows you to train consistently, safely, and enjoyably.
Pilates truly is for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level — and the instructors here can tailor every exercise to your needs.
7. How do you rate the cost/benefit of Pilates compared to other fitness programs?
I also attend a gym every second day for weights and strength training. I firmly believe that the two disciplines complement each other — however, if I had to choose which gives me the greatest overall benefit and satisfaction, I would choose Pilates.
From a cost/benefit perspective, Pilates delivers exceptional value for the results, functionality, and wellbeing it provides.
Thank you DENYS and keep being AWESOME xxx Rayna + PH team
