Pilates Basics
Getting Started
Welcome!
We can't wait to see you in our studio. Please familiarise yourself with the points below to ensure you get the best out of your first Pilates class. We will go into these in more detail at the beginning of each class.
-
BREATHING - The breath in Pilates is in through the nose and out through the mouth. Every movement has a breathing pattern.
-
POSTURE - Shoulders are always drawn down and back, creating a V-down shape towards the lower back.
-
T-ZONE - This refers to your pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles.
-
SPINE - There are two spinal positions in Pilates, a NEUTRAL spine and IMPRINTED spine. A NEUTRAL spine refers to the natural curve of your lumbar spine. An IMPRINTED spine refers to using your abdominals to draw the lower back down, so there is very little gap.
